US games retailer Play N Trade has revealed it is to take on the current monopoly of high street stores enjoyed by the GAME/Gamestation group in the UK, with its stores potentially coming to these shores by the end of the year.

Speaking to industry magazine MCV, Play N Trade CEO Roger Lloyd outlined the plans for the retailer in the UK, claiming that, “Our entry point into the UK will move the evolution of games stores forward faster. We’re going to raise the bar.” Play N Trade currently has around 125 stores throughout the US and aims to be the fastest growing chain with plans to have 1,000 stores by the end of 2010.

GAME and Gamestation, recently the subjects of a £74 million merger, are currently the only games stores serving the UK high street, with a combined total of around 650 outlets nationwide. Speaking of the competition, Lloyd said “GAME has a very strong presence in the UK and beyond, but I like competition. GAME will have to adapt to Play N Trade – we will push them to new heights. Ultimately, the consumer will win out.”

I’ve never been in a Play N Trade and I don’t think they are in Chicago area so if anyone has and knows whats it like please inform me and others. Either way this is interesting news as they are taking on the Gamestop monopoly in the US and the GAME monopoly in the UK.
