Call of Duty 4 Trailer

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Certainly looks hectic. Hectic as in I couldn’t tell what was going on :P. I would have liked to see more gameplay, but I suppose nothing will stop the hype machine of Call of Duty getting me stupidly excited anyway.

Nintendo has over 100 games in the works

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has told the media in a press event in Tokyo today, that Nintendo has 124 games in the works.

That’s an absolutely massive number, with 79 of those games in the works for the Nintendo DS and 45 in the works for the Wii. Iwata also said that the next batch of these games will be introduced at the end of “Summer, just in time for Christmas. While we’re sure not to get the 124 games before then, it does show that Nintendo has plenty of games in progress.

Guilty Gear and Gundam Wii Bound in Japan

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Guilty Gear XX

A few new Wii games announcements have been compiled into one announcement from Cubed3, here’s the highlights.

Also, following the news of SNK bringing Art of Fighting Anthology to Wii, a new entry into the Guilty Gear XX series has been revealed, aptly named Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core. This confirms early speculation of the game’s existence here on Cubed³. The game is also set for 26th July in Japan, this time from developer Arc Systems (the team that is working on Hoshigami Remix for DS). Blocking attacks and unleashing special moves are all carried out by holding down a button and shaking the Wii controller and Nunchuk in a defined manner. However, for purists there is also the option to use the the Classic Controller.

Bandai Namco has announced, through the medium of Japanese Videogaming magazines, that they are bringing a new installment of the Gundam franchise to the Wii in the form of Gundam 0079. The first few images from Famitsu scans can be seen at the link below. As for details of the game itself, the second Gundam game for Wii, following Scad Hammers at launch, is fully titled Mobile Suit Gundam: MS Sensen 0079 and is coming as soon as 26th July. It will take a place in a first-person perspective, and will allow you to take and exchange weapons from defeated enemies. The Wii’s controller is used to pull off special combination moves; shooting is carried out by pointing in ‘Sniper Mode’; and you can change the colours of your Mobile Suit and wingmen before starting a mission.

As mentioned, the Art of Fighting Anthology is going to be ported to the Wii and Bandai Namco is set to release Drum Master on the DS. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for American European release dates.

Nintendo Doubles Yearly Profit!

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Turns out super expensive consoles and meager software sales is not a worry for Nintendo. Net profits for last year rose more than double than the year prior. Software sales also helped out the cause with an increase of over 90%. I wouldn’t hold your breath for Nintendo to turn 3rd party like Sega.

This from Aussie-Nintendo.

April 26, 2007 - Nintendo has today announced its massive earnings over the last financial year to March 31, reporting record high revenues of 966.5 billion yen (US$8.13 billion), and net profit of 174.3 billion yen (US$1.4 billion) - an increase of 90% and 77%, respectively, over the same period a year earlier. Not surprisingly, Nintendo attributes the results to full-year sales of more than 23 million Nintendo DS systems around the world, along with 123 million games, pushing the dual-screened handheld over the lifetime sales mark of 40 million systems.

Additionally, after less than five months since its launch, 5.84 million Wii systems have been sold globally - just short of the company’s projection of 6 million. Meanwhile, 29 million Wii games have been snapped up by consumers.

Looking to the year ahead, Nintendo has projected global sales of 14 million Wii systems and 55 million games, along with 22 million Nintendo DS systems and 130 million games.

I have to be honest, this news was a long way coming. (Long overdue too) Nintendo knows the best way to turn a profit is to not lose hundreds of dollars for every console sold. Good work guys!

Halo 2 Vista on Games for Windows LIVE!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

As if the virtual Halo masturbation wasn’t enough, more news from the game arrives!  This time back to the second installment… but on Vista.

Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson recently received a copy of Halo 2 Vista packed with the Windows LIVE service.  While playing he was able to unlock a few achievements… so far the first time this is possible on Halo 2.  He was also able to converse with Xbox 360 users via text and voice.

For more information, head on over to Major Nelson’s Blog.

Later this year, expect to see Shadowrun on Windows LIVE which will (for the first time ever) allow PC players to play against console players.  Finally, the dreaded mouse/keyboard vs. gamepad debate will be solved.

Dewy’s Adventure Gameplay!

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

IGN recently had a hands on with Dewy’s adventure. See what they thought of it below:

Much like other Wii titles including Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Kororinpa: Marble Mania, Dewy’s Adventure uses the Wiimotes’s accelerometers to tilt the world and thereby move Dewy. Luckily, with Dewy’s Adventure, Konami sidestepped the problems that those aforementioned games ran into regarding the tilt controls; namely the discomfort associated with holding the Wiimote in the standard pointer position. Dewy’s Adventure forgoes this, opting instead for the horizontal alignment seen in Excite Truck and Super Paper Mario. This works out great for the game, as the controls feel more fluid than earlier tilt-based Wii titles. The controls are fairly sensitive, allowing for players to maneuver Dewy with minimal effort.
