Wiiware in 08

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Finally budding developers have a date for which they can start coding away on the Wii. Wiiware is going to be the Wii’s channel that allows developers to create their own games on the Wii! The press release:

‘SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 27 /PRNewswire/ — The search for the next ingeniously ground-breaking video game has begun. At a private developers conference this week, Nintendo announced the introduction of WiiWare(TM), a game-creation service that will allow developers large and small to create new downloadable video game content for sale by Nintendo through the Wii Shop Channel of the hot Wii(TM) home video game system. WiiWare paves the way for smaller, more creative games to make their way to the public at lower prices, without any inventory risk to developers. The first WiiWare content will launch in early 2008.

“Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners.”

Introduction:

Harry Potter, in my opinon, one of the best series of books to ever surface. The movies are pretty good aswell. The games have been okay so far I guess, a little bit better than your average movie game. But here’s the latest movie-game, is it as good as the previous games or the movies?

No. It’s not, infact, it’s pretty damn bad. Don’t beleive me? Well, let me explain why…

ESRB Hammers Down on Violent Trailers

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

I’m not sure where I sit with this to be honest. On the one hand, we already have age gates (which admitedly don’t work very well) and on the other; all movie trailers have ratings, so why not video game trailers? The question has come into contest since the Dark Sector trailer was requested to be pulled from the net due to its lack of age rating.

The following was sent out by publisher D3 after being contacted by the ESRB to remove it:

“In order to comply with this ruling, the ESRB has requested that the two Dark Sector gameplay montages be pulled immediately upon receipt of this notice and no longer made available for view by consumers.”

Nicole Kidman To Front European DS Commericals

Monday, June 25th, 2007

I wasn’t quite sure what to think when I received this in my mail; Nicole Kidman has been snapped up to advertise the latest DS Brain training game in Europe, More Brain Training. Clearly this is a huge boon for Nintendo’s coverage, but that must be a damned expensive marketing campaign! From the press release:

‘25th June 2007 – Known for her starring roles in films as varied as The Hours and Moulin Rouge, Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman will demonstrate it’s her brain as much as her beauty that matters when she appears in the pan –European campaign for Nintendo’s Brain Training series.

Nicole will be seen across print and television in Europe keeping her brain in shape as part of a 60 day brain exercise programme for More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? which launches across Europe on the Nintendo DS on 29th June. Fans won’t have long to wait long to see her Nintendo debut - the esteemed actress will first be seen tonight on ITV1 at 19.45.

Ms. Kidman comments: “I love the concept that Nintendo is reaching out to new audiences with their self improvement products like Brain Training. Most importantly, I’ve quickly found that training my brain is a great way to keep my mind feeling young.â€?’

More Publisher Support for Nintendo

Monday, June 25th, 2007

When your console is selling like hot-cakes, the support is bound to follow.  Three of the biggest publishers in the world have devoted more focus to Nintendo’s platform of fun……

Sega, Namco Bandai and Capcom are the latest publishers to shift their focus to Nintendo platforms at the expense of Sony systems according to a new report.  The Nikkei.net article illustrates that Sega and Namco Bandai have both doubled their Nintendo-bound software output during fiscal 2007 compared to the previous year. This is attributed to both the commercial success of Nintendo’s Wii and handheld DS and to relatively cheaper development costs for both. Similarly, Capcom is set to release a greater amount of games on Nintendo platforms than for Sony consoles during 2007.

Spore not delayed! Fans (I) rejoice!

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Next-Gen recently spoke with an EA rep on the “delay” Spore recieved.  Turns out there never was a delay at all…

“There seems to be some misinformation flying around,â€? explained a rep in a phone interview. “Nothing’s changed since our call on May 8, where [CEO] John Riccitello specifically said that we were moving Spore from fiscal ’08 to early fiscal ’09.”

EA’s fiscal 2009 runs from April 2008 through March 2009.

Good news, even though we still have to wait for some while.  I’m just glad this didn’t turn into a Duke Nukem Forever.

P.S. - Will Wright is a genious. -Brian

New Mushroom Men Trailer

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

So a trailer has actually been produced for this Mushroom Men game!  You can check it out over on GameTrailers!

…and watch a collection of artwork put together to music.

I’m sorry, but this game is already getting overhyped.  Until they release a gameplay video I officially don’t care about it.
